WAR NOTES

....Among the letters which have come to us from over the seas this week is one from India, the writer being a Rye boy who for some years past has been in India, and at the outbreak of hostilities he enlisted for active service. Sergeant Frank Kimpton is the son of Mrs. William Kimpton, of High-street, Rye. He informs us that since they were mobilised for active service on 5th August last he has been engaged in the harbour of ———, manning the searchlights. His Company is resposible for running nine of these, and they have been going incessantly from that date....

RYE WAR NOTES

The interesting news has reached us that Frank, son of Mrs. Wm. Kimpton, of High-street, Rye, who has been serving in India since the early part of the war, has been selected for the post of Assistant Wharf Superintendent of Port Administration, etc., in Mesopotamia. It is a most important appointment, as so much depends on such an officer for the regular and rapid supply for the troops in that particular district. Mr. Kimpton has gained special knowledge of the work of railway transhipment and organisation. A farewell dinner in his honour was given by the Officers and N.C.O.'s of the Volunteer Artillery, who paid him high compliments for his past sevices, and wished him success in his new positon. Ryers will also wish him success and be pleased that an old Ryer has been chosen for so important a duty.
