A SHORT TENURE
Mr. Littlefield, who was last week elected as resident carpenter in the House, tendered his resignation, and Mr. A. Smith was elected to fill the vacancy.--Mr. Kennedy remarked that one of the chief reasons for Mr. Littlefield's resignation was that he was subordinate to the labour master. It was explained that all the workmen were under the labour master, and an exception in the case could not be made.

Late Mr. J. Littlefield
Funeral of Well-Known Portsmouth Business Man
The funeral took place at Kingston Cemetery on Saturday of a well-known Portsmouth tradesman. Mr. John Littlefield, founder and director of Messrs ? J. Littlefield and Company, blind and awning manufacturers, of 220 Fratton Road, who died at his residence, Highview , Froxfield, on Wednesday last at the age of 68 years.
Mr. Littlefield was a native of Portsmouth and started his career as a joiner's apprentice in H. M. Dockyard, which he left in 1897. He then began business in Bradford Road, combining with it the duties of first manual instructor and teacher of building construction at the Technical Institute, Arundel Street. On the foundation of the Municipal College he was offered a similar post there, but decided to give all his attention to his growing business. One of his long standing contracts was for the repair and renewal of blinds for the Educational Committee. He was one of the oldest members of Royal Sussex Lodge of Freemasons (No. 342) and Chapter. His first wife, by whom he had one son (now in Australia) and one daughter, died in 1895. He married again ten years ago and leave a widow and two young sons.
The chief mourners at the funeral were Messrs. A. and G. Littlefield (brothers), Messrs. S. Hill, H. Ford. C. Twine and H. Ford, jun. (nephews), Mr. R. W. Ferguson (son-in-law), Messrs. C. Hills and R. Lamb (brothers-in-law), and Messrs. C. Bateman, R. Pook and A. Castle. The Worshipful Master (Wor. Bro. H. S. Primmer), E. Comp, F. W. Copsey (Z, Royal Sussex Chapter), and representatives of the Lodge and Chapter, as well as members of the staff of J. Littlefield and Co. were also present. The Rev. C. Smith M.A. Conducted the service.
Many floral tributes accompanied the coffin.
